Can I get the Ridge RingTM with my choice of gemstones?

Yes, as long as you choose from any combination of diamonds, sapphires or rubies! We created the Ridge Ring(TM)–featuring three gemstones held in place without prongs–to be worn by active people who prefer a graceful yet compact design.

The gemstones that we set in the Ridge RingTM are the three hardest gems available. Each is tough enough to endure the setting process, which includes carefully hammering the metal against each gem.

For the same reason, we set the gemstones in 18 karat yellow gold, platinum or in a two-tone design of 18k gold with platinum, but not in 18 karat white gold or 14 yellow or white gold.

The Ridge RingTM can be set with a variety of gemstone shapes: round, oval, square, rectangular, or soft triangular cuts.

The Ridge RingTM is one of our most durable, popular designs.

Can you restyle my diamond ring?

In addition to designing special pieces for our showroom and clients, redesigning and resetting diamonds, or other precious gems, is an important part of our business. This is a collaborative process, so the best way to proceed with restyling your jewelry is to come to our store to discuss your ideas and see our designs. Our goldsmiths are at work on the premises, in our upstairs studio.

Can you use my gold to make a new piece of jewelry?

Occasionally we can make simple items from family gold. However, most designs require specific alloys and fabrication methods. Due to the cost of refining, processing, and alloying, using “old gold” to make a new piece of jewelry rarely leads to savings. Usually people choose to turn in their “old gold” and earn credit towards their new purchase.

Can you repair my heirloom jewelry?

We handle all kinds of jewelry repair. In addition to sizing rings and tightening gemstone settings, we restore precious family heirlooms. All the work is either completed here in our studio, or carefully coordinated with internationally recognized experts whose honesty, security and quality we trust.

How can I be sure of the quality of your work?

When you purchase diamonds, precious gemstones or jewelry for us, you’ll receive a Certificate of Purchase for all items valued at $1000 or over. It carefully details the specifications of your gems and jewelry for your protection and peace of mind and should be used in conjunction with your insurance company to obtain insurance.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes, we stand behind all of our work. We guarantee that the grades of diamonds and precious gemstones are as stated in the Certificate of Purchase we provide. We assure the quality of craftsmanship in our products by guaranteeing our work against all defects in material and workmanship. In the unlikely event that you have a problem caused by defective materials or workmanship, we will work with you to correct it.

  • We are uniquely qualified to make these guarantees for a number of reasons. Here are a few: We maintain a fully equipped, in-house workshop, staffed by highly trained goldsmiths, setters and jewelers.
  • Our staff includes Certified Gemologists and Registered Jewelers with the American Gem Society (AGS).
  • We maintain an in-house Gemological Laboratory accredited by the AGS.
  • As members of the AGS, we are dedicated to continuing education and are required to pass an annual certification examination.
  • Because many of the pieces we sell were designed and created in-house, we are able to maintain quality during every step of the creative process.
Do you do appraisals?

Yes, we will appraise any item that we make for you when we use your gemstones. We are pleased to be able to offer our high quality appraisal service for items that we did not make. With appraisal work, it is best to call for an appointment.

What about trading in my diamond?

We gladly apply the full purchase price of the major diamonds in one of our pieces towards the purchase of a new diamond, provided the diamond is free from damage and the purchase price of the new diamond is at least twice the value. Many Customers take advantage of this policy, “going for” a larger sparkling pair of diamond studs by trading in their earlier Brown Goldsmiths’ diamond earring purchase.

I’m have a hard time getting my ring over my knuckle and when I do it always turns. What can I do?

There are a number of solutions for this problem. Often it requires the installation of a device to allow the ring to clear the knuckle and yet hug the finger. The best thought is to come in to our store to discuss the possible solutions.
