Hand-picking future heirlooms

Sawubona (Hello) - Like all our days in South Africa so far, today has been a full one. We spent most of the day in the first of several meetings with our diamond cutters. And what a day it was! Working down the list of special requests, surprises and treats; we’ve selected a number of the orders, and chosen some lively additions to our own collection! What fun it is to hand pick future heirlooms!

At the end of the afternoon, after connecting with our colleagues from around the U.S., we met with a group from DeBeers for a special briefing. It was gratifying to hear of their new and renewed efforts to support the people whose land offers such remarkable resources — jewels, minerals and people power.

Tonight we’re “hitting the hay” feeling even more reassured and affirmed in our volunteer efforts of the past 10 days. Bright and early tomorrow we fly from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls, Zambia, reportedly one of the most breathtaking places in the world. We will take some time to revel in the wonder of the area.

Ngi sokubona,
Judy & Steve
